Welcome to the Fargo-Moorhead Astronomy Club Homepage!

The Fargo-Moorhead Astronomy Club is an amateur oriented astronomy club serving members in North Dakota and Minnesota. Our Club Information section has information on the club and how to join. A listing of upcoming events including meetings, observing nights, and public astronomy programs is available on our Event Calendar.

The amateur astronomy community in the North Dakota and western Minnesota region is becoming a really stellar location with two great events: the annual North Dakota Star Party and the 2007 North Central Region Astronomical League Convention.

The North Dakota Star Party, held annually since 2003 at Cross Ranch State Park, has developed into the North Dakota amateur astronomy event of the year. The ND Star Party draws attendants from across North Dakota, Minnesota, and Hawai'i. Check out our page on the ND Star Party for the story on past years events and links to information on next year's Star Party.

The FM Astronomy Club is honored to be the host for the 2007 North Central Region Astronomical League Convention, or NCRAL, provides another exciting regional opportunity for people interested in astronomy. Visit the NCRAL Convention '07 page for information and news as the convention draws close.

Dr. Virginia Trimble - Cosmology: Man’s Place in the Universe

October 20th, 2008

A last minute note about a speaker tonight at MSUM. Dr. Virginia Trimble, a prominent astrophysicist who teaches at the University of California, Irvine, and the University of Maryland, will present a free public lecture on “Cosmology: Man’s Place in the Universe” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20 in MSU Moorhead’s Science Lab Building 104.

Her talk will outline what we currently know about the history of the universe and its contents and possible meanings of its evolution. The lecture will be followed at 8:30 p.m. by a free telescope viewing of the night sky, hosted by the FM Astronomy Club, at 8:30 p.m.

It sounds like we will be setting up telescopes in the parking lot off of 7th Ave S. and 11th St S.

Star Party on the Prairie - August 8

July 31st, 2008

Time: 9:00 PM – 10:30 PM (or later if people want to stay)
Where: Regional Science Center, Buffalo State Park MN

The Star Party on the Prairie is one of our annual public programs at Buffalo State Park, Regional Science Center. Club members are encouraged to bring their telescopes if they wish. Should plan on arriving to the science center around 8:00 PM to setup.

October Meeting to be held at Science Center

October 3rd, 2007

The October 9th Meeting will be held at the Regional Science Center (Buffalo State Park) instead of the usual location at the MSUM planetarium. Meeting time will still be the same: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM.

The reason for the change of location is because we were asked to send one person to help out with a small observing night. Our fearless president made a decision to relocate the meeting so we can (hopefully) all enjoy a bit of telescope time.

Everyone is encouraged to bring scopes along!
